Whole Genome Shotgun Sequencing of the Sugar Beet Genome
The sugar beet RefBeet-0.9 genome draft was prepared from the double haploid accession KWS2320, strategically chosen according to existing resources from this genotype, such as ESTs, large insert genomic libraries, genetic mapping populations, and genetic and physical maps. We combined sequencing data generated on Illumina and Roche 454 next generation sequencing platforms with Sanger reads and assembled the data into 82,305 sequences (1964 of which are scaffolds, the remainder consists of non-scaffolded contigs >= 500 bases) using the Newbler software version 2.6. The unedited draft encompasses 590 Mbp (N50 length of 759 kbp). RefBeet-0.9 has not been anchored to the genetic map, no correction of homopolymer errors in the consensus has been performed, and misassemblies have not been corrected.
